When Maggie Brennan reflects on what led her to child welfare, the answer takes her back to her childhood.
Adopted at birth and raised in a family that welcomed and supported others without hesitation, Maggie grew up watching compassion in action. Inspired by her mother’s willingness to help people through difficult times, she learned early on the importance of community, connection and showing up for others when they need it most.

Thirteen years later, those same values continue to guide Maggie’s work as a Community Engagement Manager in Abilene, Texas.

For Maggie, the most rewarding part of her job is simple: helping people feel less alone. Whether she’s connecting families with resources, introducing them to community partners or helping navigate life’s challenges, she knows that sometimes one connection can change the course of someone’s journey.

One experience has stayed with her over the years. Maggie worked with a youth in foster care whose biological mother was working toward reunification. By building trust with both the biological mother and the foster family, Maggie helped create open communication and stronger relationships between everyone involved. Through transportation support, resources and ongoing encouragement, those connections continued to grow. When reunification was achieved, the story didn’t end there. The foster family remained a source of support for the biological mother, providing friendship, encouragement and a lasting sense of community. What began as a professional partnership became a network of support that helped strengthen the family’s future.

Moments like that remind Maggie why this work matters.

“I love being able to connect with people, learn about their lives and connect them with people and resources in the community that can make everyday challenges a little easier to handle and make them feel less alone.”
For Maggie, child welfare is more than a career. It’s a calling rooted in her own story and a belief that every family deserves support, connection and someone willing to walk alongside them.
Thank you, Maggie, for helping build stronger families and stronger communities every day.
